From the land of Timor!

Posted on March 17, 2017 by St. Johns Coffee | 0 Comments

From the land of Timor....
Just arrived and freshly roasted. We've had this amazing coffee before but as with all other coffees, they are seasonal.
So when we saw a new crop had come in, we jumped on it.
With the previous coffees we'd had from Timor, I took them a bit darker but on this lot, I pulled back just a bit. The result is a rich rich chocolate with hints of vanilla and a syrupy sweetness.
Now available!
Grower Cooperativa Café Timor (CCT)
Variety Bourbon, and Timor Hybrid
Region Ainaro, Ermera, and Lequisa, East Timor
Harvest June- October
Altitude 800 – 1,600 meters
Soil Volcanic loam
Process Fully washed and dried in the sun
Certifications Fair Trade, Organic
This coffee is sourced from family-owned farms organized around the Cooperativa Café Timor (CCT), which has more than 20,000 members who live in the Ainaro, Ermera and Lequisa districts of East Timor. Coffee cultivation on East Timor was originally established over 400 years ago by Portuguese colonists but leaf rust destroyed all production until a new coffee varietal called Híbrido de Timor was introduced in the 1900s. Today, the average small producer cultivates coffee on less than one hectare of land. CCT was established in 1994 with the help of the USDA and the NCBA (National Cooperative Business Association) to help small producers market their coffee internationally. Through a free healthcare initiative, CCT has funded the operation of seven rural clinics, three mobile clinic teams and eleven community healthcare teams that have treated more than two million patients since 2001.

March is our 9th Anniversary!

Bounce into Spring with a little caffeine!

We've finally begun to see some improvement in the weather although the forecast still shows rain mixed with snow for the next two days.

However, many of the Crocus, Daffodils and other bulbs are starting to make their appearance and with that, comes a lot of optimism. Our outdoor seating made it's appearance this past week and has been a welcome alternative for enjoying the random sunshine.

Wednesday, March 8th is our 9th anniversary! It's hard to believe it has been 9 years. Please help us celebrate on Wednesday with some cake and enjoy 20% off the purchase of St. Johns Blend coffee beans.

With the advent of Spring, comes Daylight Savings Time, beginning 2 am, Sunday March 12th. So don't forget to move your clocks ahead one hour.

To help with that loss of one hour of sleep, we're here to help keep the population caffeinated. Stop by for your favorite, hand-crafted coffee beverage, paired with a delicacy from St. Honorè Boulangerie.

We've just added a new sandwich from St. Honorè.
Baguette bread filled with tarragon chicken salad, sliced tomatoes, lettuce and slices of hard boiled eggs.

If your plans call for a Spring break vacation, don't forget to take plenty of fresh roasted, organic and fair trade coffee with you.

And if you're in the Sellwood neighborhood on Monday, stop by New Seasons where Emiley and I will be there from 11am - 2 pm, handing  out samples of our fresh roasted  coffees.

Customer Quotes
Love love love this place. The staff is so personable and due to my regular visits I have become personal friends with a few of the staff. Their coffee is amazing and never half assed quality or customer service. The bagels with house made cream cheese are to die for and the seasonal blended drinks are delicious (which says something for a black coffee drinker). I would also like to mention that it is also the cleanest coffee shop I have ever set foot in. Without this place, St. Johns wouldn't feel the same.
